What It Costs
A door that's jumped the track is almost never a simple nudge-back-into-place job, even though that's what most homeowners hope for on the phone. If the rollers are intact and the track just needs realigning, you're looking at a bracket adjustment and a check of the horizontal run. If a roller has snapped or the track itself is bent from the door being forced down on a bad angle, you're replacing hardware, and the cost climbs with how much of the original run has to come out. We don't quote a flat number sight unseen, because the two jobs above are not the same price and pretending otherwise would just mean a surprise on your invoice. What we can tell you is that houses in this area built around 1972 commonly still carry their original steel track and roller brackets, and that hardware from that era is thinner gauge than what gets installed today, so it bends rather than just slipping.
The Symptom
Off-track shows up a few different ways. The door hangs crooked in the opening, with one side noticeably lower. It binds halfway up and stalls, or it comes down and catches on something that isn't there when you look closely - that's usually a roller riding outside the track rather than inside it. Sometimes you'll hear a grinding or scraping that wasn't there last week. In a house built around 1972, the odds are good that nobody has touched the roller and bracket hardware since the house was framed, which means fifty years of seasonal expansion and contraction on steel track that was never swapped for nylon rollers or heavier gauge rail. That kind of hardware doesn't fail cleanly - it works loose a little at a time, so the door goes from fine to off-track faster than the slow wear underneath it would suggest.
Booking a Visit
We run out of Norcross, about 4 miles from Doraville, so there's no separate branch or crew based in town - the same truck and the same people who handle the surrounding area come to you. When you call, tell us what the door is doing: hanging crooked, grinding, stuck partway. That lets us bring the right hardware the first time instead of making a second trip for a part we didn't know we'd need. If you've got a two-car door, mention whether it's one panel or two, since the bracket count and the weight on the track differ between them.
How Long You Are Without the Door
Most off-track jobs on a single door get resolved in one visit once we're on site, start to finish within a couple of hours depending on whether it's realignment or hardware replacement. The variable is parts - if the track or rollers on an original 1972 installation don't match current stock sizing, there can be a short wait while the right piece gets sourced. We'll tell you on the spot if that's the case rather than let you assume the door's going back up that afternoon. Until it's fixed, don't run the opener. Forcing a motor against a door that's off its track is how a bent track becomes a broken opener gear, and that turns a hardware repair into two repairs.
